I was excited for this years Emmy Awards. (I just realized I never covered the Emmys last year! Oops.) I was really hoping Downton Abbey would sweep the awards, and even though it didn’t, I was happy to see Maggie Smith! I am also happy that Homeland won the awards for Best Drama as well as Best Lead Actor and Actress. We finally got around to watching the first season and I’m totally obsessed!!! It’s an amazing show. But, back to the fashion. Here are some of my favorite looks and trends on the red carpet. Who’s on your best dressed list?
1. Rays of sunshine.
Leslie Mann in Naeem Khan
Julianne Moore in Christian Dior
Claire Danes in Lanvin
Julie Bowen in Monique Lhuillier
Move over, Tangerine Tango! Yellow can be such a hard color to wear, but these ladies pull it off. I couldn’t wait to see what Claire Danes on the red carpet, and I just love the way her dress shows off her baby belly. Adorbs. (Stay tuned for my girl crush post on her.) I also love Leslie Mann’s turquoise accents. And although Julie ripped off Paula Patton’s Golden Globes look, she totally worked it.
2. Criss-crossy.
Hayden Panettiere in Marchesa
January Jones in Zac Posen
I’m a total fan of the bold, graphic texture of both dresses. The gold and teal combo of Hayden’s dress is so unique and totally stunning. But I really love the dominatrix quality of January’s dress. Not sold on the hair color though.
3. Mermaidy.
Sofia Vergera in Zuhair Murad
Julianne Hough in Georges Hobeika Couture
Sofia and Julianne show off their curves in gorgeous mermaid gowns in shimmery, watery tones. It’s like they washed up on the shore perfectly coiffed and ready to walk to the red carpet!
4. Best use of boobs. (And Heidi’s legs.)
Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano
Kat Dennings in J. Mendel
Heidi Klum in Alexandre Vauthier
Sorry, this had to be its own category. These ladies really know how to show off their assets! And as a Project Runway fan, it’s so cool that Christina is wearing a Christian Siriano dress.
5. 50 Shades of Grey.
Emily van Camp in J. Mendel
Morena Baccarin in Basil Soda
Connie Britton in Andrew Gn
There was a lot of grey on the red carpet. 50 Shades inspired, perhaps? These are just three of my faves. And Morena is so freaking gorgeous. Total girl crush.
6. A Zooey confection and other miscellaneous looks.
Zooey Deschanel in Reem Acra
Michelle Dockery in Ralph Lauren
Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier
Jessica Paré in Jason Wu
This should just be called the other women I love that didn’t fit anywhere else. I wish Michelle’s dress was less wrinkly, but I think she’s perfection, so I had to include her. I’m a little on the fence about Ginnifer’s look, but she gets points for being unique. And Jessica’s look is simple and sophisticated and kinda Gwyneth-esque.
6. The dudes.
I know the red carpet is all about what the women are wearing, but there are so many good-looking guys, I wish we’d get more pics of them! I mean how do I not include Jon Hamm? I adore Jimmy Fallon. Zachary Quinto is just hot. And Johnny Galecki…well, you know I love my geeks.
