Ashley from 7th House on the Left: in her makeup bag.

Hi everyone! We’re celebrating our redesign (and finally getting our blogroll live) by featuring the obsessions of some of our fave female bloggers. And I am so excited to introduce today’s guest blogger, Ashley Brown from 7th House on the Left. Her blog, which she runs with her husband Greg, is all about renovating, decorating and living in their first home in Richmond, Virginia. I think Ashley is my blogging doppelgänger! I’m a huge fan of her blog because we have the same taste and decorating style. And not only do we share a first name, but we’re both graphic designers with coder husbands, and huge fans of I Love Lucy.

Ashley said she often gets asked which beauty products she uses, but since her readers might prefer to read about paint primer than face primer, I’m happy she’s using our blog to feature what’s in her makeup bag! Thanks so much for sharing your obsessions, Ashley!

1. Lorac Oil-Free Wet/Dry Powder Makeup (in Porcelain)
I don’t wear foundation everyday, so the cool thing about this is that you can wear either/or with the same product. I apply it wet for sheer coverage and dry for full coverage. Not only does it get the job done, but it’s packed with yummy vitamins for your skin. So while you’re wearing this makeup, it’s also nourishing and conditioning. A win-win!
2. L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes (in black)
I’ve been using Dior mascara for yearrrrrs. I really liked how it would “build up” my lashes and stayed in place until I took it off. The $26 price tag was a bit annoying at times (especially for Greg, haha!) but it was worth it because it did it’s job well. Then I found Voluminous Million Lashes. Hello! This is stuff is awesome. I realize different mascaras work well for different people (kind of like shampoo) but this mascara works really well for me. It’s only $7 a tube – and that’s much more understandable in Greg’s head, haha!
3. Cargo Water Resistant Bronzer
If I was stranded and could only have one makeup product, I’m pretty sure this would be my choice. It’s my not-so-secret weapon for instantly taking my makeup from looking “okay” to “really good”. I just apply as I would a blush and I’m good to go. Sometimes, I even use it as a base for my eyeshadow.
4. Smashbox Photo Op Eyeshadow Trio (in Vanilla/Sable/Sumatra)
Speaking of eyeshadow, this is my go-to eyeshadow for all occasions. The colors are opaque and can easily be amped up even more with a tiny bit of water. I use a little extra of the Sumatra (dark brown) for a “light smoky eye” look.
5. Butter Nail Polish (in Cream Tea)
I’m what you could call a nail polish junkie. Aside from classic black, this is my neutral go-to color. It has a creamy almost-white hue that’s really clean and simple.
6. Bobbi Brown Lip Balm
Truth be told, I change favorite lip product pretty much every week. However, this is a year-around favorite of mine that always has a place in my makeup bag. It’s non-greasy, light and perfect for a natural gloss look – which I heart!
7. Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner
For some reason, people ask me what kind of eye liner I wear all. the. time. The main thing I love about this eyeliner is the fact that it goes on so easily and doesn’t take much to get a nice, dark line. It also stays on really, really well – which is always a plus for eyeliner!
